Navigating the NDIS Support Lists: What NSW Participants Need to Know

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) introduced major changes to the NDIS Support Lists that began taking effect on 1 October 2025. This marks the end of a crucial transition period for all participants and providers in New South Wales. You are not alone if you’re an NDIS participant who wonders how these changes will affect your funding, supports, and service delivery. Knowing how and what has changed will, therefore, be important for keeping your plan on track. You may need to take additional actions because of these changes.

What Happened on October 1, 2025?

The official end of the transition period is the most important change. Participants could use some supports more freely until September 30, 2025, even if the updated support rules didn’t make it clear what those supports were. Starting on October 1, all supports must strictly follow the official NDIS Support Lists, with no exceptions.

The NDIS also set a two-year deadline for filing claims. You can only claim for supports that were given to you in the last two years starting on October 3, 2025. The NDIS system will automatically turn down claims for services that were given more than two years ago.

Important Changes to the Support Lists

The new NDIS Support Lists moved around some support groups to make things less confusing and clearer:

Core Supports now have clearer definitions for help with daily tasks, consumables, community and social participation, and transportation. To make your plan easier to follow, some support items that used to overlap have been combined.

Capacity Building Supports have been restructured to prioritise Employment Pathways and Independent Living Skills training. Some therapy-related supports that were previously spread out across categories are now grouped together so that they are easier to find and claim.

Capital Supports now has new ways to claim Assistive Technology and Home Modifications, and the price limits have been changed to match what things cost on the market now.

Changed Support Item Codes

A lot of supports got new support item numbers. This means that providers and participants need to make sure that service agreements and invoices show the new codes. If you see codes on your plan or bill that you don’t recognise, they probably have to do with this update from October.

This change will affect how providers bill you and how you keep track of your spending, so it’s important to go over your current support agreements with them.

What This Means for Your NDIS Plan

Knowing about these changes will help you avoid bad surprises. These are the most important things to think about:

  • No transitional or legacy items are allowed anymore; all supports must match the official NDIS Support Lists.
  • Providers need to change their service agreements to reflect the current pricing and support codes.
  • Your invoices or plans may have new line items or support codes.
  • All claims now have to follow stricter rules.

What You Should Do Now to Take Action

Now is the time to look over your NDIS plan again if you haven’t done so since these changes went into effect. “Are my current supports still on the new NDIS Support Lists?” is a question you should ask yourself. and “Have my providers confirmed that they have updated their agreements?”

Set up a meeting with your support coordinator or plan manager to make sure your plan follows the new rules. A quick check-in now can stop problems with funding or claims later on.

Important Things to Talk About with Your Coordinator

The key to a successful NDIS plan is your Support Coordinator. Make use of your check-ins to make sure everything is operating efficiently.

  • Technical and Financial Review Catalog Compliance: Are all of my present services in line with the most recent NDIS Price Guide and Support Codes?
  • Provider Contracts: Have my service providers updated their contracts to include the most recent pricing and support codes?
  • Budget Pace: Are we using my funds at a pace that will allow me to stick to my plan for the whole time?

Goals & Effectiveness

  • Goal Alignment: Do the supports I’m receiving still directly help me achieve my current NDIS goals?
  • Service Quality: How effective are my current supports, and should we explore any new or alternative providers?
  • Capacity Building: What are we doing to increase my independence and skill-building in the coming months?
